You're tired of:
Sorting through the scattered, often conflicting information online, desperately wanting to create something truly yours.
Overanalyzing each painting in the pursuit of perfection leaves you drained and frustrated.
Collecting 'highly raved' art supplies, only to find a graveyard of untouched dreams.
Being trapped in your comfort zone, it once felt safe as you repeat the same techniques and subjects but now stifles creativity. You yearn to break free and explore beyond your limits but are afraid and uncertain how.

It's time to break free, embrace change, and express yourself freely.
You are eager to set yourself apart, and deserve a better way to paint freely, unburdened by creative insecurities.

BUT you got stuck in a never ending loop of tutorials that resulted in dependance and a sense of overwhelm where every tutorial you try leads you to questioning if you can really paint on your own. Plus you struggle with knowing if you are on the right track as you paint along to yet another tutorial.
BUT you notice how your focus has shifted to specific outcomes instead of applying what you know. You also noticing how discouraged you feel when comparing your progress with others. The absence of constructive feedback beyond ‘likes’ when you post your art also creates loneliness and increasing self-doubt.
BUT you discovered that showing up online has led to increasing feelings of self-doubt. You start to focus on the wrong metrics, prioritizing ‘likes’ and scrolling through someone else’s progress. Plus, there is little genuine feedback beyond ‘likes’ about where to go next. The overwhelming volume of posts can make it difficult to stand out.

"I have attended a few workshops and no one gives the knowledge and insight like Jillian does! Florals always seem intimidating but Jillian taught so well and gave me courage to try!"
- Aalekha
"...I really liked how you explained strokes and I couldn't love my stroke brushes any more. Game changer!!! It gave me more confidence that I could make a floral shape even with something that I thought was "ruined"
- Erin
"No Formula Florals, together with Watercolor Redefined. These 2 courses are hands down the best classes I have taken on painting florals (and I took many!!). No Formula Florals is the foundation to painting florals and gave me the know-how of how to piece together shapes my brushes make into any flower possible. Together with Watercolor Redefined, I feel like I can paint any flower now, without any step by step tutorials!!! THANK YOU for empowering me with such precious skills and confidence."
- Michelle
"Jillian is an incredible teacher. She is kind and humble and always encouraging. I love that she shared the brush strokes so that I can practice them to build muscle memory"
- Melissa Deakin
"I did take away a VERY valuable suggestion which is ALREADY reaping a very different feel in my painting...NOT holding the brush at the ferule. There is a sense of freedom holding the brush higher up and utilizing the movement of the arm. THANK YOU. I am practicing this and I can see how this can lead to "looser" florals."

"Hi Jillian Thanks for your message! I am happy that I am learning new skills like how I use and manipulate brushes esp the large brushes as I've never tried painting large (larger than A5) before. I am developing in my understanding of composition, depth using varied value, and colour palette. I don't know if I am improving but I think I am gaining confidence in my approach to florals, I am relying less on copying and using more independent thinking by applying what I've learned in Brush Movement. Hope this helps answer your question?"

When I started out as a watercolor newbie, I felt excited by the array of content available for me learn painting without attending a paid workshop/ course.
Investing in a watercolor workshop or course was the last thing on my mind as I was completely new and dabbling in this newfound "hobby".
With basic watercolor materials and a laptop - I dived into the realm of ‘tutorial land’ feasting on the array of subjects I could paint.

The more tutorials I followed, the more overwhelmed I got. I struggled to piece together conflicting pieces of information about how watercolor worked or how to paint X.
My self-esteem took a hit as I found my art looking different despite following step by step tutorials. I started to doubt my capability of being an ‘artist’.
Despite gaining more insight on how to use watercolor, I found it increasingly difficult to translate what I knew on a blank sheet of paper.
I realised that I developed a dependency for tutorials and fell into the trap of spending more time on my device scrolling and watching someone else paint than doing any actual painting - it did not help that all these videos made painting look effortless and easy when my experience was anything but.

My art got noticed by others on social media (yay!) and I started to get more requests for custom work. Even though these were exciting opportunities to get my art sold
I feel like an impostor
I did not feel like I could sell my art especially since most of them were from following someone else’s step-by-step tutorial.
Were these pieces of art truly my own? Were they considered ‘original’?
Can I call myself an artist?

To paint flowers on my own and get off the tutorial hamster wheel (but I struggled to translate what I had in my head on paper - I was unsure of where to start.
Despite spending so much time on tutorials, they were not helpful in showing me how to apply techniques to painting in my own style)
Investing in better (more expensive) materials in the hope that these would give me better results (but I ended up feeling the pressure of performing better because of the higher price tag in the materials I bought - leading to more anxiety instead of confidence.
I also started to doubt my ability to ‘live up’ to these materials as they started to collect dust on my desk)
Joining free watercolor groups/ challenges and putting my art on social media in the hope of getting feedback and validation for my art (but I was surrounded by either artist of similar levels or artist who were beyond what I could ever be - none of whom could offer more than ‘likes’ to my art.
I also fell into the rabbit hole of comparing my art with theirs wondering ‘when will I ever paint like X’)

And that's when it hit me...
And that's when it hit me...
And this time, I finally started to see progress in my art:
I started a personal project of 100 days of painting flowers in 2022 where I based all my paintings off reference books instead of tutorials.
I connected with my existing supplies and stopped buying more supplies in the hope of painting like others and really started to see more inspiration and possibility within my curated supplies
I felt more confident selling my art since I had created these works of art on my own

The best thing?
I no longer had to trade my time (and self confidence) searching for the next tutorial

I am a psychologist turned full-time watercolor artist based in Singapore. I got my first paint sets in 2018 and never turned back. Being self taught was not easy because it meant having to test lots of supplies and sift through information online on my own. The hardest part was realising that I needed someone to give me instructions on how to do something without being able to listen to my inner voice. This is why I have created The Floral Foundation. A space meant to help nurture and build a foundation that allows you to embrace the magic and mess of watercolor

Designed for those who might call themselves 'advanced beginners.' But let's face it, that term is pretty broad.
That's why, at Brush Movement Collective, I've created 5 stages to guide you on your artistic journey and help you pinpoint exactly where you stand.
Designed for those who might call themselves 'advanced beginners.' But let's face it, that term is pretty broad.
That's why, at Brush Movement Collective, I've created 5 stages to guide you on your artistic journey and help you pinpoint exactly where you stand.
Stage 1:
The Curious
Stage 2:
The Wanderer
You want to do more with watercolor and have figured out some of the basic techniques that your materials can do.
You paint along with tutorials and feel some success in being able to create something from nothing.
You discover an online community of like-minded artists and started following specific accounts whose style/ art you like.
You see a gap between where you are and how you wish you can paint - that impatience in wanting to progress faster starts to grow.
Stage 3:
Traveller
You have done your exploring and you are setting a destination. You have a subject that you are keen to focus on and paint more of.
You feel confident about your skills and at the same time there is a recurring nagging thought of ‘am I doing this right?’ lurking in the back of your mind.
You notice internal struggles bubbling from time to time when things don’t work out as you question your efforts.
You notice conflicting information about how watercolor works and are frustrated as you try to connect the dots on your own.
You want to rely less on tutorials and start painting like YOU but are unsure of where or how to start
Stage 4:
The Curator
You are narrowing down a specific style and subject you want to develop further.
You are fine-tuning your techniques and becoming more intentional with how you create.
You wonder what would happen if art becomes more than a hobby. But the thought of “Who am I to sell/ teach my art” keeps getting louder
You really want to set yourself apart from others and create in your own unique voice
Stage 5:
The Wizard
You are rocking your style and are intentional with the techniques you paint with.
The only roadblock in the way at this point is you and the things you say to yourself - this often stands in the way at all stages but gets the most heightened the higher up in the stages we go.
Troubleshooting is something you can do easily and the occasional overworked painting still happens but you can identify how to improve next time.

A: This space was crafted for you! I want to make watercolor as accessible as possible while allowing you to gain clarity on the steps and everything you need to help you to get started and sustain this beautiful craft. I will take you through everything from getting started to learning how to paint off a blank page.
A: I recommend that you look into the various stages to see if you can relate to any of those avatars. For $27 a month (which is the price of a tube of paint) you can determine if there are any gaps in your learning that could be hindering your progress. Plus - if you want a monthly creative injection - the monthly classes and Q&A sessions will be a great space for that!
A: Monthly we have 2 LIVE Zoom Segments where we focus on 2 things - painting for fun (Monthly LIVE Art Social) and getting clarity on where to go next (Monthly LIVE Q&A Session). These are typically during the Singapore time zone of either 9 am or 9 pm (GMT+8). Your access to the replay is ready
A: Access to my growing workshop library, once a month floral class, a live Art Social and Live Q&A session on all things watercolor, plus a community of likeminded folk and feedback on how to progress.
A: Write to me at kraftyfox@brushmovement.com or drop me a message on instagram @jillianboonart so that we can connect.
A: The content will focus on florals and floral shapes. The techniques in watercolor can be generalised to other subjects but our focus will be on flowers - painting the occasional landscape can also help you to stretch your creativity.
A: This would be the perfect introduction for you to get everything you need to know ABOUT painting flowers so all the guesswork is taken from you. Plus - getting no formula florals 1.0 means that you get to learn about the essential brush strokes to help you paint loosely.
A: On the last day of our enrollment closure! Brush Movement Collective is a closed door membership and only opens its doors every quarterly.
A: You will have access to the material as long as you continue to stay within Brush Movement Collective
A: I want you to love the space and be the right fit for this. I have a 7-day money back guarantee if you feel like you are not the right fit.
A: Brush Movement is a closed-door membership that opens doors for enrollment every 5 - 6 months
