This recorded workshop is for you if you:
- Are new or seasoned in watercolor
- Struggle with where to layer and how to enhance your painting.
- Can’t get past your first ‘ugly’ layer and find yourself giving up mid painting
- Feel that your paintings look flat and you can’t figure out how to improve it
This 100 minute workshop will show you the possibilities using 1 color to paint (monochrome).
While painting with colors is beautiful - colors trick your mind to think that you can create depth by adding an array of colors.
Painting with a single color removes the distraction of color mixing and color theory. Instead, we will zoom in on developing a trained eye to build layers and depth through tonal values.
This 100 minute workshop will show you the possibilities using 1 color to paint (monochrome).

In the past, I would ‘finish’ my painting in 1 layer.
I thought that the only way to add shadow to my paintings meant blending or adding darker colors. Through my exploration - I have fine tuned my methods.
I want to show you how to bring our 3D world into your 2D space on paper and take all the guesswork away from you.
I get that adding layers to watercolor is difficult to know where to start because:
- we attach so much feeling to the first layer - at the start, it takes a lot of courage to paint. And when it is time to add a second layer - we become afraid of messing up our first layer.
- watercolor is a transparent medium and layering means that mistakes show through the layers.
- It is difficult to simplify and break down elements in your reference picture
You need this workshop so that you can:
- Stop relying on 1 layer when you paint
- Paint with intentional knowledge of the 4 elements that make your paintings stand out.
- Figure out how and where to ‘paint’ light and shadow using tonal values
- Understand what glazing is and how to use it in your paintings

- A 100 minute online workshop showcasing the tools to making your paintings pop even with 1 color

Hello, I am Jillian
Also known as krafty fox
I am a watercolor artist based in Singapore. My 24/7 job is a mother - and I think in watercolor.
My 4 year old would tell you that “my mummy is a painter”.
Painting is a space that I have carved out for myself in the busyness of motherhood. Specifically, painting flowers reminds me of how brief seasons are - just as how each season in motherhood is fleeting.
I believe that watercolor is an art that is best learnt by sharpening your skills instead of following steps
